"That means a lot, to have my whole family here," Blake said. "Sometimes, I'm a little worried about it because you get a little nervous trying to play well and perform for them. Sometimes, I put too much pressure and stress on myself worrying about that."

Not that he showed it.

Giavotella won the June award while playing for the Storm Chasers. Robinson won monthly awards twice last season while playing for Class AA Northwest Arkansas in the Texas League.

Minor details
The Royals bolstered their Class AA Northwest Arkansas roster prior to Wednesday's start of the Texas League playoffs at Arkansas by promoting left-handed pitchers Justin Marks and Ryan Dennick from Class A Wilmington.
Marks, 23, pitched 13 scoreless innings over his final two starts for the Blue Rocks, who failed to reach postseason. He was 8-8 overall with a 3.98 ERA in 28 games. Dennick, 24, was 3-7 with a 4.36 ERA in 35 relief appearances.
Looking back
It was 39 years ago today — Sept. 8, 1972 — that right-handed pitcher Steve Busby made his major-league debut by pitching a complete game in a 3-2 victory over Minnesota in the second game of a double-header at Municipal Stadium.
Busby allowed five hits while striking out seven and walking two. Busby, now 61, went 70-54 in an eight-season career cut short by injuries. He joined outfielder Amos Otis in 1986 as the first inductees into the Royals' Hall of Fame.

on Thursday as the White House and top lawmakers scrambled to sort through competing options

on Thursday as the White House and top lawmakers scrambled to sort through competing options and stave off a devastating U.S. default.
With the clock ticking toward an August 2 deadline to raise the U.S. debt ceiling, President Barack Obama and the senior Republican in Congress, House Speaker John Boehner, worked toward a budget plan that would include deep spending cuts but might leave tax reform for later, congressional aides said.
The main obstacle remained the issue of tax increases that Obama's Democrats want and Republicans vehemently oppose. There were conflicting accounts of how and when higher revenue might kick in, and the White House vowed there would be no deal without this.
The main focus was on prospects for what congressional sources said was shaping up as $3 trillion in deficit cuts over 10 years, a figure that many in Washington hope would help salvage America's triple-A credit rating. Rating agencies have called for a comprehensive deficit-cutting deal.
